ALIENS Liquid-Filled Xenomoph Blood Record Just In Time For ALIEN DAY

Since Mondo announced the ALIENS liquid-filled vinyl soundtrack, they have gotten quite a few questions regarding the process behind creating this type of record. They had the idea last summer and sent some copies of the record to their friend Curtis Godino, who specializes in making liquid-filled records. He’s been working on them ever since. Here’s what Curtis had to say about the process:

“I started making liquid-filled records about two and a half years ago. I have been doing analog light shows for about 5 years now as Drippy Eye Projections and a few years with The Joshua Light Show. One very prominent component was the oil wheel which I started making in my home. An oil wheel is a liquid filled disc that spins inside of a projector to project the liquids mixing.”

aliens_3_1024x1024Using techniques perfected in the oil wheel-making process, Curtis discovered he could do the same in creating liquid-filled records for his band, Worthless.

“Since I make each vinyl one by one, the process is very time consuming and tedious; there are three stages which take a little over an hour per record. But the up side about doing each one is that I can make sure they are perfect. The obvious issues that are always brought up are leaks and evaporation. I use a special type of resin to seal the records which has kept my oil wheels sealed without leaks for years. Also, I am not using water inside the records, so the viscosity of the liquid and the fact that it is air tight assures that the liquid will not evaporate. Hopefully that will calm the skeptics a little.

I have been developing new ideas for new types of records and extensions of the liquid disc which will hopefully reach the surface soon. I’m very excited for the future of this medium.”
